We use the jsTree library for AtoM's full-width treeview (first added in #6375). During the initial design phase I pointed out how hard to see and click the default caret icons were, so eventually we swapped them for fontAwesome plus and minus icons instead, as shown in the documentation here:

At some point in the 2.4 release, perhaps when we upgraded the jsTree library version, or when we added new features like lazy loading (#10522) or drag and drop support (#10973) were added, we lost this customization.

It's recently been pointed out in the user forum (2018-11-21). Filing an issue so we can investigate and restore the custom icons.
