Added sortBy field in the advanced search form, see r11075. Process code was not implemented. Reassign to David.

Search requires a creator to be attached to a date.
If no creator is attached to the date, it is not being indexed.

Fixed in r11252.
Additionally, Can now search on "startDate:" (YYYYMMDD format), "endDate:" (YYYYMMDD) or "date:" (textual) values using date range.

YYYY-MM-DD works
startDate:YYYYMMDD works
YYYY-YYYY works (and subsequently from this set: YYYY works, but if you type startDate:YYYY it does not return a hit) Please confirm that this is the correct behaviour.
