Doc, xls and rtf seem to be the ones with the display problems. Please see attached screenshot.

Good catch. The workaround is to hide the thumbnail when AtoM couldn't generate a preview. It's not consistent with the imageflow on the sidebar where an icon is shown instead though. Fixed in commit:80481a7323216d8c2a1830fa3445bcecb08d4127.

(05:12:16 PM) epmclellan1: oh thanks qubot
(05:12:16 PM) qubot: Don't taunt qubot!
(05:12:28 PM) Sevein: yep
(05:12:46 PM) epmclellan1: anyway, I think it's problematic if there's no thumbnail display at all, because users won't be able to tell there's a digital object attached the description
(05:12:59 PM) Sevein: yeah, but there's not an easy fix right now
(05:13:15 PM) Sevein: not sure what to do
(05:13:19 PM) epmclellan1: ok, understood, I'll make a note of this conversation in the issue
(05:13:23 PM) epmclellan1: in case we get complaints

It seems to be working like Sevein said in the first update. No broken thumbnails and no console errors/warnings. Tested with doc, xls and rtf files, in Chrome 27, Mozilla 22 and IE 10.

In the above image, the Artefactual Beta Testing fonds had an xslx linked to it, while the Ultimate ISAD fonds had an rtf file linked.
I agree that there are no broken icons in the search results, but I also agree with Evelyn's earlier comments that NOT showing any indication of an associated digital object is problematic. Is there any reason why we can't use the same default icon that appears in the Browse digital objects screen, as well as the carousel in the context menu of an archival description with multiple related digital objects?

standard thumbnail image will show now on search results. Note for testing - those previously uploaded, before the fix, will not suddenly display thumbnail images in search results, since the thumbnail was never generated. However, if you remove the first testing digital object, and re-upload an rtf, xls, docx, etc., the thumbnail will be displayed in the search results.

Also of note - Jessica's attached screenshot, with Microsoft Icons, did not appear for me, using FF 22 or Chrome 28. This may be a browser issue. However, the standard little generic paper icon was still present, indicating the presence of a digital object.
