Description

To reproduce this error:

1) Using Internet Explorer 8 (IE8), navigate to an archival description in ICA-AtoM 1.3
2) On the treeview, hover the mouse over various levels of the archival description
3) Next, navigate to Browse digital objects
4) Hover over one of the digital object previews in the showscreen

Resulting error:

1) On the treeview, mouseover pop-ups appear inconsistently in IE8
2) In the browse digital objects screen, mouseover pop-ups do not appear at all in IE8

Expected results:

1) mouseover pop-ups should appear consistently on all levels of description in the treeview when using IE8
2) mouseover pop-ups should appear consistently in the Browse digital objects showscreen

Additional notes

This issue has been tested in all themes against the behaviour of Firefox 15 (which performed as expected). It was tested on both a locally hosted instance of ICA-AtoM and on the publicly available Demo site, and produced the same error in both cases.

The treeview pop-ups work for me when the item has no children, but the pop-up doesn't appear when the item has children (and thus an arrow icon).

See attached screenshot "Treeview_popup_IE8.png":
  • AM551 - popup works (no children)
  • AM953 - popup doesn't work (has children)

The fix 9b8dd866 makes the treeview popup to show up in any case, even when the title fits in the node box.

#9 Updated by Dan Gillean over 6 years ago

Jesus' notes about the fix are verified - the popup now appears in all cases, across all themes, even if the title is not truncated (ie, fits in the node box).

However, an unintended consequence of this approach is that now in all themes EXCEPT Trilium, the title is not truncated in the Treeview itself. See the attached screenshots - I've included one from Firefox (version 17), showing the expected behaviour in the Caribou theme. A similar screenshot from Caribou in IE8 shows how the title information in the treeview continues on to subsequent lines.

Trilium is the only theme that is currently truncating the titles properly (though the hover pop-up appears even if the title is not truncated).

Hover pop-up for digital object browse is working properly in all themes in IE8 now.

Radda, can you look at that? AFAIK, the text truncation is available in IE8: see compatibility table, http://www.quirksmode.org/css/contents.html.

Dan, looking at Radda's fix closer, I don't think that the change that you described has been produced in commit:9b8dd8660bcae68c16986996073362c31f2734c9. But what you are describing is certainly an issue, feel free to file a new one for that.
