I’m having a problem deleting things from the Archivematica version that’s
installed locally on my machine. When I move something to the trash
(either through right clicking or by dragging), the item disappears from
wherever it is currently, but it doesn’t reappear in the trash. It doesn’t
appear anywhere else, either, and the space it is taking up is not freed.
There seems to be a short circuit somewhere along the line.

Wow, I was able to reproduce this issue.. but Im no closer to understanding why the
.trash folder is not functioning. For now, please highlight the files in the file
manager and use the key command 'shift-delete' to permanently remove files. I have
tested that this is working and will free up space.

Just a follow-up on this; I have been doing some testing on the version of
Archivematica 0.5 installed on the virtual environment (as opposed to on my desktop,
which is where the problem was discovered) and have not had any problems deleting.
Files moved to the trash appear in the trash, and when I tell the machine to empty
the trash the file space frees up as it should. So this issue seems to be limited to
the instance installed on my personal workstation. Whether that is any help in
figuring this problem out, however...
