This is work that in the future will hopefully be expanded to all templates. For now, we are performing the following tasks:
- Add to migration script to add taxonomy to existing AtoM instances
- Add genre access point field to RAD data entry and display templates
- Add <genreform> to EAD import/export
- Add <genre> to MODS import/export
- Add genre to search index
Default terms will populate the new Genre taxonomy for use in AtoM. All 45 terms included have been taken from the US Library of Congress' "Basic Genre Terms for Cultural Heritage Materials," available at: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/techdocs/genre.html
The new Genre taxonomy will include a taxonomy description indicating this, with the following help-text:
"Genre terms drawn from appropriate vocabularies; used as an optional access point in the RAD template. Default terms are from "Basic Genre Terms for Cultural Heritage Materials" (Library of Congress)."
Since RAD GMD (General Material Designation) terms also use the <genreform> EAD element on export, GMD terms will be differentiated by adding @source="rad" and an @encodinganalog="1.1C" attributes to the GMD terms exported.
When clicking on a new Genre term in the RAD view template, users will be taken to a browse page similar to the subject and place browse pages.
Hopefully in the near future, we can expand the use of this taxonomy so it is available on all templates with access points, esp. ISAD and DACS.
Images will be uploaded to this ticket for reference, and for use in documentation.
